Week 7 Picks

San Diego @ Buffalo (NL)

Buffalo started the season hot as could be, but lately has hit the brakes a bit as far as their perceived dominance in the AFC North. Trent Edwards is coming off a concussion and the team, although 4-1, hasn’t had the look of an elite team. San Diego on the other hand has had difficulty capitalizing on games they should win, but after a strong effort against the Patriots on Sunday night, look for the Bolts to continue rolling in the AFC.

Pick: San Diego

New Orleans (+3) @ Carolina

Who is the best team in the NFC South? As much as the media likes to talk about how good the NFC East is, the South may be the most competitive division in football. Carolina has looked strong at times but has gotten lucky, and New Orleans, though just 3-3, has been on the losing end of some pretty close games. If the Saints are going to get it back on track, it starts this week.

Is Shaun Alexander Going to Make a Difference? posted on 10/16/2008
While I don't think Shaun Alexander is going to be an impact player for the Skins, I think the price they paid (next to nothing) is a good deal to get a player who is just 2 years removed from being league MVP. Thoughts?

Free Agent Signings posted on 10/16/2008

With all of these distractions from the Cowboys, including the Pacman Jones scandal, the signing of Roy Williams and Romo's injury, the Redskins have quietly retooled from what will hopefully be their most disappointing loss of the season. As I wrote before, signing Shaun Alexander could prove to be huge, and will cost almost nothing, and the additions of Safety Mike Green (not the hockey player) and Punter Ryan Plackemeier will solidify holes that are not critical to the teams success, but needed attention.

As for Mike Green, Reed Doughty, is now on IR, and while the Redskins started the season with him as the starting Safety beside LaRon Landry, Chris Horton has taken over and been the rookie surprise of the season. Green comes in not to replace Doughty, but as an insurance policy to Horton in case he goes down with an injury or isn't playing up to an acceptable level.

The Addition of Shaun Alexander posted on 10/15/2008

With Betts out for a while, will Shaun Alexander really be a difference maker for the Redskins?

The answer is "who cares," simply because Alexander comes to the Redskins for the price of the veteran minimum, and at worst will only be with the team for 4-5 weeks. At best, Alexander proves that he is somewhat of a shade of his former MVP self and can help the skins develop a legitimate two-back system where he and Portis can swap carries. I think this is a great move by the Redskins and has no downside, besides the fact that it perpetuates Snyder's signing of over-the-hill free agents.
